2013 Gummies Hike

28 January 2013
This was the Second annual winter Gummies Trip…..
Starting with a 6 mile Night hike from the scout hut to Beacon Hill Campsite in Colgate.   The Scouts made their own route cards and had a compass for company.
Starting of at 7.15 then every 20 mins after the 4 teams enter the darkness and head for the Leechpool Woods.
On arrival to Colgate campsite  the patrols found hot Dogs, Soup and the Xbox and Wii systems with Large screens ready and waiting for the fun to start.
1.30AM that was the call for Lights out – Finally by 2AM all were asleep. Only to be raised at 7AM!!
A hearty breakfast was had by all and the Skills of Lashings, Knots started….
with a trail at the end of the session to build a chariot and carry a person.
The trail was fun in the icy snow remaining on the ground only to find out that was a practice run — A 2 lap race was started and with running repairs and mucky wet Scouts a lot of fun was had.
Once the Scouts had changed and warmed up with a hot drink and biscuits they set about starting the next project of whittling the Drill component for a friction bow. Result were varied!!
Overall a good weekend…
Looking forward to the next weekend camp.
